Freshman Writing Workshop

The purpose of the Freshman Writing Course is to explore aspects of the writing process – drafting, revising, editing – to achieve the skills for academic writing. The curriculum will cover basic writing skills, standard writing conventions, and sentence structure. In addition, students will focus on key concepts, such as how to write a topic sentence and a thesis statement, how to organize details in supporting paragraphs, how to use effective language in formal writing, and how to demonstrate the basic rules of MLA format, including properly citing a text. Writing exercises and in-class assignments will help develop and foster learning the fundamental components of academic writing. For any questions, email
