Saint Anthony’s Friar Sports Camp Medical Staff  includes a full-time Registered Nurse and Certified Trainers from East Northport Physical Therapy.

Edward J. Modica, ATC, EMT

Head Trainer

After 20 years working as an Athletic Trainer, Coach Edward J. Modica, ATC, EMT is starting a new chapter in his life at East Northport Physical Therapy as Head Athletic Trainer for VAST at Saint Anthony’s High School. Coach Modica is looking forward to an exciting future working for a highly prestigious sports program.

Coach Modica graduated from Hofstra University with a major in Exercise Physiology and Athletic Training.  His athletic training experience includes:

  • 11-year position as Head Athletic Trainer for Molloy College in Rockville Centre
  • Personal Assistant to world-renowned orthopedic doctor Irving V. Glick, MD and orthopedic surgeon Kenneth D. Montgomery, MD (Newsday’s Top Doctors).
  • Head Athletic Trainer for the New York Dragons Arena Football where he worked for 8 seasons.
  • Athletic trainer for the US OPEN Tennis Tournament in ’97 ’98 ’99 ’04  & ’05
  • National Football League with the New York Jets in ’90 as an intern

Andrew Wachtel, ATC, LAT

Assistant Head Trainer

Andrew is a Board-Certified Athletic Trainer by the NATABOC and is a member of the NATA, and NSCA.  Wachtel graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2007, where he majored in Athletic Training / Sports Medicine. Wachtel was an intern for the Dragons during the 2005-2006 seasons. His Professional experience also includes an internship with the New York Titans Lacrosse team of the National Lacrosse League as well as the New York Jets of the National Football League in 2006 as a training camp intern and again for the start of the 2007 season as a Seasonal Assistant Athletic Trainer. Andrew has also done work with Yale University, and has been a volunteer for the Empire State Games. In May 2009 Drew was named Head Athletic Trainer and Medical Director for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League where he worked under MLB great Tim “Rock” Raines. While with the Bears he was chosen to be the Head Athletic Trainer for the Atlantic League all-star game. Andrew is entering his second year as an Athletic Trainer for East Northport Physical Therapy.
